Am I Too Comfortable?
Have you heard of the phrase “too comfortable?” What does it mean to you? Does being too comfortable equal contentment or settling?
Liz closed her iPad unable to answer the questions her mentor had sent for their weekly check-in. And in all honesty, these questions had crossed her mind in the past week but as usual she had brushed it off.
Liz pulled up her browser to understand what these two different words meant.
Comfortable: a sense of mental ease or security in a situation or with a person
Contentment: a state of happiness and satisfaction
As Liz ruminated on the definitions that didn’t assist in settling her confusion, she remembered something she had scribbled in her journal.
I’ve grown too comfortable. In the sense of not wanting to leave where I am. I definitely want to grow but am I putting in the work? Maybe it is indeed the same thing.
As she pondered on the words she had written down, a small voice whispered:
To be content in God is to be content in His promises. You don’t have to be comfortable where you are but be content.
Being comfortable means, you do not see the need to put in the work. Being comfortable means you are not planting when you should be. Contentment is being satisfied in God’s promises and planting as God has directed you to.
I would love to add that it is important to know the season of life you are currently in and run with that knowledge. If it is the time for you to plant, do so earnestly as 2 Corinthians 9 vs 6 tells us that the man who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the man who sows generously will also reap generously.
Before I draw the curtains, I have decided to include a segment where I introduce a song (all Christian) to you my dear reader.
The song for today is Open My Eyes by Sondae and I hope it blesses you as much as it has blessed me.
